Director's Message

Every student who comes to UC San Diego brings unique strengths, talents, and perspectives. At OASIS, we see those strengths first and we are here to help you build on them as you grow academically, personally, and professionally.

As a first-generation college student, I learned how powerful it can be to find a place where you are seen, supported, and inspired to aim higher. For more than 50 years, students have called OASIS a “home away from home.”

When you join our community, you will find academic support in math, science, and writing, mentoring from peers who know what it is like to navigate UC San Diego, workshops that build on your strengths while helping you develop new skills in learning, communication, and professional growth, and programs that create community and provide guidance as you explore your identity, strengthen your leadership, and plan for your future goals. Most importantly, you will find people who recognize your potential and are ready to support you in reaching it.

OASIS is also one of the largest student employers on campus, which means that many of the people you meet here will be fellow Tritons leading, mentoring, and giving back. That creates a cycle of support, students uplifting students, that has always been at the heart of who we are.

When I think of OASIS, I think of possibility. You already bring so much with you to this campus, your lived experiences, resilience, creativity, and vision for your future. OASIS is here to provide the resources, community, and encouragement that help those strengths shine even brighter.

I invite you to come visit us, explore our programs, and connect with the people and resources that will support your success. Your OASIS community is ready to welcome you.

In community,
Christina Medina-Ramirez, Ph.D.
Director, Office of Academic Support & Instructional Services
